Nassir al-Maliki has worked for the trade caravans of the Burning Sands for most of his life. His natural talents for swordplay and horsemanship brought him notice from the caravan masters and he quickly rose up the ranks. He also developed a bad reputation for lechery among the ladies of the caravans, something not helped by an absolute lack of luck on his part at times.
After nearly a decade, the veteran warrior has achieved the pinnacle of his career, having been appointed the head of the guards tasked with protecting the riders and observers of the Great Race. He has proudly done so for nearly four years, and prides himself on the relative peace the events has enjoyed since his ascension. But privately, he worries that this year's race might break that streak.
